Why Kompliy Chose a Suite-of-Tools Approach Over a Monolithic Platform

Instead of building one massive platform, Kompliy created a focused ecosystem of specialised tools. Here's why that approach delivers better outcomes for construction teams.

Why Kompliy Chose a Suite-of-Tools Approach Over a Monolithic Platform

When we set out to solve construction compliance challenges in New Zealand, we faced a fundamental design decision: build one all-in-one platform, or create a suite of specialised, best-in-class tools. We chose the latter — and the results speak for themselves.

The Problem with Monolithic Platforms

The construction tech industry is littered with bloated, all-in-one platforms that try to do everything and end up doing nothing particularly well. These platforms typically suffer from:

  • Feature bloat — users pay for dozens of features they'll never use
  • Steep learning curves — complex interfaces that require extensive training
  • Slow innovation — every update has to consider the impact on every other feature
  • One-size-fits-none — generic solutions that don't excel at any specific task
  • Vendor lock-in — once you're committed, it's difficult and expensive to switch

For construction teams already overwhelmed by the complexity of compliance, the last thing they need is another complex system to learn.

The Kompliy Approach: Specialised Tools, Connected Ecosystem

Kompliy takes a fundamentally different approach. Instead of one monolithic platform, we've built a suite of three specialised tools, each designed to be the best at what it does:

ConsentNZ

Purpose-built for the New Zealand building consent process. ConsentNZ handles everything from initial consent application through to processing, with smart forms that adapt to project type and location, document management with completeness checking, and real-time status tracking. It's designed by people who understand the consent process deeply — not as an afterthought bolted onto a larger system.

ContractGuard

AI-powered contract review and management specifically designed for construction contracts. ContractGuard analyses contracts against NZ standards (NZS 3910, NZS 3915), identifies risks, tracks obligations, and ensures nothing falls through the cracks. It understands the specific language and provisions of construction contracts in ways that generic contract management tools simply can't.

Approvios

Streamlined approval workflows for construction projects. Approvios manages the complex web of approvals that construction projects require — from design sign-offs to variation approvals — ensuring that the right people review and approve at the right time.

Why Specialised Tools Win

1. Depth Over Breadth

Each tool in the Kompliy ecosystem goes deeper than any module in a monolithic platform could. ConsentNZ doesn't just track consents — it understands the nuances of the Building Act 2004, the specific requirements of different BCAs, and the common pitfalls that trip up applicants. ContractGuard doesn't just store contracts — it uses AI trained specifically on NZ construction contracts to identify risks and opportunities.

2. Speed of Innovation

When each tool is independent, we can innovate faster. An improvement to ConsentNZ can be developed, tested, and deployed without worrying about impacts on ContractGuard or Approvios. This means our users get improvements more frequently and with less disruption.

3. Flexibility for Users

Not every construction team needs every tool. A small builder focused on residential consents might only need ConsentNZ. A large contractor managing complex commercial contracts might start with ContractGuard. Teams can adopt the tools they need, when they need them, without paying for capabilities they don't use.

4. Best-of-Breed Quality

By focusing each tool on a specific problem, we can achieve a level of quality and sophistication that's simply not possible in a monolithic platform. Each tool is built by a team that's deeply focused on that specific domain.

How the Tools Connect

Specialised doesn't mean isolated. The Kompliy ecosystem is designed so that data flows seamlessly between tools when teams use multiple products:

  • A consent approved in ConsentNZ can feed into ContractGuard for contract management
  • Approval workflows in Approvios can reference consent conditions from ConsentNZ
  • Compliance data spans across all three tools for comprehensive reporting

The key difference is that these connections enhance each tool without compromising its focus. Each tool works brilliantly on its own, and even better as part of the ecosystem.

What Our Users Tell Us

"I love that I can just use ConsentNZ for my consent work without being forced into a massive platform. It does one thing and does it really well." — Building Consultant, Hamilton

"We started with ContractGuard and added ConsentNZ six months later. The transition was seamless, and both tools are clearly built with deep industry knowledge." — Project Manager, Auckland

"After years of fighting with bloated all-in-one platforms, Kompliy's approach is refreshing. Each tool just works." — Compliance Manager, Christchurch

The Future of the Ecosystem

Our roadmap is focused on two priorities: making each individual tool even better, and strengthening the connections between them. We're also exploring partnerships with complementary tools in the construction tech ecosystem — because the suite-of-tools approach doesn't stop at Kompliy's own products.

The construction industry deserves technology that's as focused and specialised as the professionals who use it. That's the philosophy behind every tool we build.
